The Birth of SxyzicityTM
Out of the most challenging of times comes the best possible future….

It took all of human history until 1830 for world population to reach one billion.

The second billion was achieved in 100 years,

The third billion in 30 years,

The fourth billion in 15 years,
Population by 2050
"In 2005, world population exceeded 6.5 billion people, growing by nearly 80 million per
year with virtually all of the growth taking place in the poorest countries in the world,
where population already strains economies, environments and social services.  Rapid
population growth causes or exacerbates poverty, hunger, environmental degradation,
economic stagnation, resource depletion, disease and illiteracy – a sure fire formula for
global insecurity."
“Our growing numbers – now more than 6.5 billion and expected to grow to 9.1 billion by
2050 – require more space, more food and more resources. There are more of us
consuming more, a pattern leading to the depletion of the world’s limited natural
resources. But consumption is more than just a game of numbers. It is also a function of
lifestyle choices and political, economic and social structures."  population

"It can be safely predicted that, because of the urgency and increasing expansion of the
environmental movement, architecture will probably change more radically over the
next two decades than it has changed in the past 100 years.  Far beyond the usual self-
conscious motivations of style and theory, the shape of buildings will finally be forced to
respond to the demands of the limited resources and earth-centric imperatives."
The Art of Architecture in the Age of Ecology, Taschen July 1, 2000, p.16.
Sustainable Architecture
Sustainable architecture, (wikipedia) is a general term that describes  environmentally-
conscious design techniques in the field of architecture. Sustainable architecture is
framed by the larger discussion of
sustainability and the pressing economic and
political issues of our world. In the broad context, sustainable architecture seeks to
minimize the negative environmental impact of buildings by enhancing efficiency and
moderation in the use of materials, energy, and development space.

The biggest challenges mankind faces today are to fulfil our energy demands worldwide
in order to have an equitable standard of living and quality of life for all living beings on
earth and to provide the necessary space and shelter for all human activities. This will
have to be accomplished without further destruction to our natural environment.

In the United States alone we will have to create new construction in the amount of more
than twice what we have today in the next twenty years.  China alone will build an
amount equal to the United States in ten years.  This can only be accomplished by
reducing our use of fossil fuels and non-renewable resources through the application of
sustainable building development practices.  It has been estimated that forty percent of
heat trapping carbon dioxide comes from residential and commercial structures

The time has come for a new earth-friendly building technology that will change the way
we inhabit the earth.
SxyzicityTM is a new invention and building technology, USPTO and PCT international
patents pending.  All rights reserved.

Eight problems to be solved and benefits to be realized:

Safety: Earthquake, storm and fire disasters are more readily mitigated with
TM inhabitable space frames than with conventional buildings because they
provide more stable and secure structures.  Significant costs and risks of conventional
ductile frame structures are reduced with the use of fewer, larger seismic isolators that
reduce seismic shock. Aerodynamic designs mitigate storm forces easier with
TM, and access for rescue and recovery is easier, due to the sloping nature of
their 4D geometry.

Health: Due to its sloping nature, SxyzicityTM space frames can more easily be
designed for better living environments with a greater symbiotic relationship between
people and the earth, compared to urban sprawl and high-rise development. They more
easily accommodate natural ventilation, passive solar design, and water and waste
management designs.

Economy: SxyzicityTM space frames allow for increased density and size of
inhabitable structures while reducing the amount of required structural support
compared to present day building structures, thus saving investment funds and
resources.  They can achieve equal or greater structural support with a reduced amount
of materials when compared to present day building structures.

Energy: Structures normally absorb solar energy as heat gain that needs to be
offset with insulation and air conditioning.  Sxyzicity
TM can be designed more easily as
energy structures to collect solar energy as electrical power, thus reducing heat gain,
environmental and financial costs of operation.  Wind energy and rainwater are also
absorbed and managed within the designs of Sxyzicity

Unusable sites: SxyzicityTM supports economical building on hillside and cliff
terrain, thereby allowing flat terrain to be more open for local food production, parks and
recreation. Unbuildable steep terrain sites can be developed more easily by:
    A.        reducing land costs,
    B.        avoiding redevelopment destruction of neighborhoods, and
    C.        building at higher elevations with better views, cleaner air, and style.

Adaptability:  Conventional structures “set in concrete” cannot easily adapt to
changing user needs and wishes. Sxyzicity
TM allows for the expansion, reduction and or
reconfiguration of structures indefinitely into the future, and its components can be
mass-produced and stockpiled for ready use and reuse, worldwide.

Sustainability: SxyzicityTM uses fewer natural resources than today’s building
technologies. It can better accommodate nature’s demands and use nature’s gifts in a
more sustainable fashion due to its 4D nature.

Convenience: SxyzicityTM embraces rapidly growing trends toward mixed-use
inhabitation where people less frequently find the need to travel beyond walking
distance for work, entertainment, shopping and other domestic needs while still
maintaining well-designed space and ambiance.

The Provisional Patent Application, with Figures 1-16, was filed with the United States
Patent and Trademark Office on August 8, 2008, along with the Intent to Register
International Trademarks.  Sxyzicity
TM Inc. and  were established on
that date.   The revised Public Patent Application, with Figures 1-32A, was thereafter
filed on June 19, 2009, the summer solstice.
